Adorable Smurfs ‘Invades’ Rome

Last weekend, people from all over the world celebrated “Global Smurfs Day”, where the adorable blue cartoon characters take center-stage. 

In Rome, Italy, more than 4,000 Smurf sculptures literally took to the streets and were seen scattered around the city—they were spotted at famous landmarks like the Colosseum, Trevi Fountain and Piazza di Spagna. 

The public installation also doubles as a clever publicity stunt for the movie The Smurfs 2, which is set to premiere in Italy on 25 September 2013.
