Yet Monroe struggled to find happiness and battled with long-term mental illness.
His inner turmoil and the constant search for love led her into a downward spiral from which he can not come out. On August 5 1962, she was found dead in her LA home following a drug overdose.
She may have been perceived by many as a ditzy blonde, but shallow and one dimensional she certainly wasn't.
"In Hollywood a girl's virtue is much less important than her hairdo," she once said.
"You're judged by how you look, not by what you are. Hollywood's a place where they'll pay you a thousand dollars for a kiss, and 50 cents for your soul. I know because I turned down the first offer and held out for the 50."
